L. Frank Baum, the creator of The Wizard of Oz, was an American author best known for his children's books, particularly The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and its sequels. Born in 1856 in upstate New York, Baum had a prolific writing career, penning 14 novels in the Oz series, plus 41 other novels (not including four lost, unpublished novels), 83 short stories, over 200 poems, and at least 42 scripts.
After an unsuccessful stint as a theater producer and playwright, Baum moved west, where he and his wife opened a store in South Dakota and he edited and published a newspaper. They then relocated to Chicago, where he worked as a newspaper reporter and published children's literature, releasing the first Oz book in 1900. Baum made numerous attempts to bring his works to the stage and screen, and the 1939 adaptation of the first Oz book became a landmark of 20th-century cinema. In his final projects, he sought to establish a film studio focused on children's films in Los Angeles, California.
The complete set of L. Frank Baum's Oz titles includes 14 books, starting with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. These editions feature nicely illustrated pages with original formatting, and the hardback and Kindle versions include many color pictures. The illustrations are by W. W. Denslow and John R. Neill, with some books containing over 100 illustrations, and the text is often wrapped around the images.
In addition to the Oz series, SeaWolf Press publishes a collection of classic adventure, Americana, and Shakespeare-inspired illustrated works, including Jules Verne's Around the World in 80 Days, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas, and more. There are also Mark Twain classics, such as Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, as well as Shakespeare's plays, including Macbeth and Hamlet.
For readers interested in black history, women authors, and gripping detective stories, SeaWolf Press offers a selection of titles, such as Uncle Tom's Cabin, Narrative of Frederick Douglass, and works by Jane Austen, Louisa May Alcott, and Agatha Christie. The publisher also has a collection of all 50 Jack London books and a 100th Anniversary edition of the Wizard of Oz series, featuring the original 14 L. Frank Baum books and the next 6 titles written by Ruth Plumly Thompson.
